Les 22 compositions de ce nouvel album de Dr Dre (ex-membre de NWA), où interviennent les représentants de son label (Eminem, Hittman…) ainsi que d'anciens compagnons de galère (Mc Ren, Snoop Dogg…) et Mary J Blige, sont les composantes de l'ultime coup de grâce que pouvait porter ce producteur/rappeur visionnaire à une planète hip-hop défigurée par le succès d'un rap récurrent dans sa forme la plus commerciale. Ce second volet de The Chronic réalisé en 1992 - un album qui allait alors considérablement modifier les règles du hip-hop - apporte la preuve que Dr Dre, aujourd'hui assisté de son disciple Mel-Man, est revenu au meilleur de sa forme depuis le déclin du label Death Row et la mort de Tupac en 1996. Entre des lignes de basse ronronnantes (The Watcher), des synthés lancinants (Fuck U), des guitares entêtantes (Xxplosive) et le piano puissant et enivrant de l'incontournable Still Dre, cet album subtil et homogène dans sa diversité restera un classique.
